Fahrenheit 451 – Review

Fahrenheit 451: I really really liked this book. I went into it expecting a sci-fi book like most sci-fi I’ve read. (Haven’t read any Bradbury before this one.) And although sci-fi was the spine of it, the meat was about books, the love of books, our relationship with books, the protagonist who has spent his life burning books for a living and discovers the magic of books, the antagonist who is peculiar in being able to quote from books but is a ‘Fireman’ anyway. The language is lovely; I’ve read of Bradbury’s writing being described as poetic prose, and that is perfectly accurate. For a novel written in the 50’s, it’s quite accurate to the extent that it predicts a society that will crave mental stimulation via incessantly bombarded but rubbish information (our world today).
